Summoning of Cong LeadersNandgarh differs with Vedanti Chander

Tribune News Service

Talwandi Sabo, May

Jathedar of the Takht Damdama Sahib Bhai Balwant Singh Nandgarh today disagreed with Jathedar of the Akal Takht Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti over summoning of Sikh Congress leaders and MLAs, who sided with Dera Sacha Sauda on May 14, to the Akal Takht.
Vedanti said on May 20 that those Sikh Congress leaders, who sided with the Dera Sacha Sauda sect on May 14 at Bathinda, could be asked to appear before Sikh clergy.
Talking to The Tribune on the phone, Nandgarh said the edict regarding social boycott of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and his followers was issued to the Sikh community by the Sikh clergy on May 17 from the Takht Damdama Sahib. Hence, no action could be taken against the Congress MLAs under the edict as they supported the dera on May 14.
Violence broke out in Bathinda on May 14 when a clash between the members of various Sikh organisations and the followers of the dera took place over burning the effigy of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh.
Replying to a question, Nandgarh said the Sikh Congress leaders were not to be summoned at the Akal Takht for any political considerations.
Giani Vedanti could not be contacted for his comments despite repeated efforts.
