Anti-Dera bandh turns violent in Ambala

AMBALA:
Police on Tuesday lathicharged Sikh protestors who tried to take out a procession defying prohibitory orders to protest against Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Raheem Singh's alleged insult to tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh. At least ten persons, including Ambala Superintendent of Police Amitabh Dhillon and two constables, were injured in stone pelting outside Gurdwara Badshah Bagh when about 500 Sikhs, most of them youths, and the police came face to face. The agitating Sikhs were adamant they would take out a protest march from the gurdwara but police disallowed it citing prohibitory orders. Some vehicles were also damaged in the process. Meanwhile, Sikhs under the banner of Haryana Akali Dal submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner R P Bhardwaj demanding a ban on Deras in the state, including Dera Sacha Sauda at Sirsa, arrest of Sant Gurmit and registration of a case against him for his alleged blasphemous act.
