AISSF demands to call Sarbat Khalsa on dera issue

Patiala: The All India Sikh Students Fedration(AISSF) headed by Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad and other like minded Sikh organizations Friday appealed to Akal Takht Jathedar to convene Sarbat Khalsa (Sikh convention) to chalk out strategy and take Sikh Sangat into confidence before making any future decisions regarding the plans to end Dera system.
Peer Mohammad stated that the present dera Sacha Sauda issue was a religious issue which is to be handled by Takht Jathedars in coordination with all the Panthic organizations, but it is unfortunate that the whole issue is being hijacked by Punjab Government and is being handled by State machinery while shielding the culprits who have played with sentiments of Sikh Sangat.
The panthic organizations are being directed by Indian Government and the religious sentiments of Sikh Sangat are being ignored. These panthic organizations are changing their plans at the behest of the State government to please their political masters.
He said that SGPC has failed to establish its supremacy in advancing the Sikh religion and protecting the traditions of Sikhs. The SGPC is controlled by some vested interests who are more into politics than protecting and advancing Sikh religion. They appealed to Sikh masses that criterion to choose representatives for SGPC should not be politically motivated rather religion should be priority in choosing SGPC members.

Court stays Bittu's arrest in sedition case

FATEHGARH SAHIB: The court of District and Sessions Judge, Fatehgarh Sahib Thursday stayed the arrest of Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) senior vice president Daljit Singh Bittu who has been booked by Punjab government in case of sedition for raising slogans of Khalistan during protests against dera Sacha Sauda.

Bittu's lawyers filed bail application under section 438 of CrPC for grant of anticipatory bail on June 6 . The judge heard the application tody and stayed Bittu's arrest till June 12.
Fatehgarh Sahib police had registered a 'sedition case' against Bittu and others on May 31 on the statement of Fatehgarh Sahib SHO Darshan Singh. It was alleged in the FIR that Bittu and his colleagues came in front of bus and stopped it and raised slogans of 'Khalistan Zindabad', 'Sant Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale Zindabad', 'Sant Bhinderawale Teri Souch Te Pehra Devange Thok Ke' and used the words traitors against the members of 11 members of committee sitting in bus, which was going to submit memorandum to Governor against Dera Sacha Sauda chief. It was also alleged in FIR that they also raised abusive language against the committee members .
Though case was registered against Bittu on May 31 but he attended public function as routine. He along with other hardliners Dal Khalsa's Kanwarpal Singh and Karnail Singh Panjoli was a part of committee headed by Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee president Paramjit Singh Sarna even had gone to submit memorandum to Punjab Governor against Dera Sacha Sauda chief but security staff of Governor did not allow Bittu , Kanwarpal and Panjoli to meet Governor but did not arrest Bitu, who was wanted by Fatehgarh Sahib police in 'sedition' case. He also attended meeting of Sant Samaj and attended a function related with Operation Blue Star in Amritsar recently but police did not arrest him. Today his lawyers filed bail application .
Bittu's lawyers in his bail application submitted that on the directions of Akal Takht Jathedar various Sikh organizations and sikh community at large took part in peaceful procession against the activities of Dera Sacha Sauda from Gurdwara Fatehgarh Sahib to Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup on May 31, which remains peaceful throughout a day.
As per the bail application, there is a political ravellery between ruling Shiromani Akali Dal(Badal) and SAD(Amritsar). So, the workers of SAD(A) are being victimized by the government at various level and they are being involved in false cases.
As per the bail application , as the matter involved in protest march relates to Sikh religion, the SAD(Badal) was fearing that SAD(Amritsar) can get the political advantage due to Sikh sentiments against Dera Sacha Sauda by leading the procession. So, under the frustration, Bittu and his colleagues have been involved in a false case by Fatehgarh Sahib police on the directions of the ruling party.
It was alleged that a false and concocted story has been prepared in the FIR registered against Bittu and others . It was claimed that no violence has took place on May 31 during the procession. Feelings of any community was not hurt during the procession. Procession remains peaceful through out a day as evident from various news papers.
As per the bail application , FIR has been lodged by Inspector Darshan Singh and not by any private person which shows that not a single member of any community shown his resentment against Bittu or against slogans of any person from the procession.
The defence counsel said that if allegations made in the FIR are believed in toto, no offence is made out as mere demand of Khalistan does not attract the provision of section 124-A, 153-A, 505 of the IPC as held by Apex Court and Punjab and Haryana High Court in number of cases.
As per Bittu lawyers Hardev Singh Rai and Gurpreet Singh Saini, Bittu is ever ready to join the investigation and will make himself available .

Hardliner Sikhs condemn Z-plus security for dera Sacha Sauda Chief

CHANDIGARH: Condemning the Haryana government for providing Z plus security cover to Sirsa Dera chief Gurmit Ram Rahim, the newly constituted 15-member Khalsa Action Committee Thursday resolved to take the fight against the Dera Sacha Sauda to its logical conclusion.
The resolution condemning the decision of Haryana government was passed in an emergency meeting held here.
Releasing the decisions of the meet to the media the committee convenor Paramjit Singh Sarna said it was most unfortunate that a person who was facing criminal charges including rape, blasphemous, land grabbing and murder has been provided the security cover meant for VVIP. He said by doing so the Haryana government has rubbed salt on the wounds of the Sikhs. He said the acts of dera chief tantamounts to undermining the Sikh principles and ethos. He said the struggle against the dera chief would continue until Gurmit Ram Rahim was put behind bars for hurting Sikh sentiments.
He said that a delegation of Khalsa Action Committee would soon meet the Haryana Chief Minister to lodge its protest besides demanding a legal action against the Dera chief. He said they would also meet the concerned authorities in the Union government.
Accusing the Congress for adopting double standards on the issue, Kanwar Pal Singh said the successive governments of Congress both at Centre and states has been patronizing the Dera chief in order to create divisions amongst the Sikh community. He said a delegation of 101 members would be meeting the Punjab chief minister on Monday (June 11) to urge him to arrest Dera chief without delay and also to close his deras in Punjab by declaring them ‘illegal’. He said a march would be taken from Dina Kangar (Moga) to Talwandi Sabo on June 24 to mobilize the masses.
In another resolution, the meeting condemned the state government for registering ‘false’ cases against those Sikhs who were zealously agitating against the Dera Sacha Sauda. The matter would be taken with CM by members of the committee on June 11, said he.
Daljit Singh Bittu took Punjab CM to task for not discharging its constitutional responsibility so far. He ruined that three weeks have passed since the Dera chief insulted the religious sentiments of the Sikhs and not a single step has been initiated to arrest the baba.
He said an advisory board has been set up comprising Gurtej Singh, Prithipal Singh Kapur, Manjit Singh Calcutta, Dr Gurdharshan Singh Dhillon, Narien Singh and Harjinder Singh Dilgheer.
Others who were present in the meet were Rajinder Singh Chandigarh, Bhai Mokham Singh, Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode, Karnail Singh Panjoli, Harinder Singh Norway, Baba Baljit Singh Daduwal, Baba Sukchain Singh (Sant Samaj).

Sikh leaders protest to Punjab Governor for refusing to meet them

CHANDIGARH: Daljit Singh Bittu Senior Vice President of SAD(Amritsar) and Kanwarpal Singh general secretary of Dal Khalsa Thursday wrote a protest letter to Punjab Governor Gen(Retd) S.F.Rodrigous for refusing to meet them alongwith a delegation of Sikhs on dera Sacha Sauda issue.

The contents of the letter are as follow: We write to you to protest the role of the security agencies advising you not to include our names amongst the Sikh political leaders who met you yesterday to raise the issue of blasphemy by the pseudo-saint Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his dera in Sirsa.
Ostensibly you did not meet us because there are sedition cases pending against us and this is what your ADC told the leader of the delegation, Paramjit Singh Sarna, president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
We would like to humbly submit to you that your officers and you have badly erred in making such a judgment. You are the first citizen of the state and it is your duty to listen to the complaints and concerns of all categories of citizens, including those who are rebels in the eyes of respective governments. Your denial violates the spirit of democracy and the law of the land which holds every person innocent till proven guilty.
We have dedicated our lives to zealously work for the political aspirations of the Sikh nation and serve the cause of upholding the social, religious and political rights of the Sikh people. Our views are diametrically opposite to that of the mainstream Indian political thought. Whether holding such views constitutes sedition is subjective upon which side of the fence you are.
Ethnic peoples and nationalities, like Sikhs, Kashmiris, Nagas and the neighbouring Tamils enjoy the audience of a host of political leaders, both within governments and at the United Nations. The Indian Prime Minister, the defence minister and a host of senior bureaucrats regularly meet NSCN leaders, who make no bones about demanding a separate Nagaland. Every other day the media reports about covert overtures being made to the Hurriyat leadership for talks on the issue of Kashmiri sovereignty!
As you followed inaccurate and biased advice of your officers, you set a wrong precedent. If state governments act beyond the ambit of law and governors become rigid and biased, then to whom will the dissident or the political opponent approach? Is it being suggested or implied that every time there is an injustice we should knock the doors of courts?
As we were part of a delegation which was to call upon you to raise a very sensitive issue, it was a time to show sagacity and large-heartedness. Instead we were shown the door. Though no further proof was required, but the legitimacy of our fight was more than confirmed by the treatment meted out to us. While we are hurt by the ignominy hurled upon us, in keeping with our tradition we have taken it in our stride. We will wait till better sense prevails.
Thank you.

Another Case on Bhai Daljit Singh at Shri Amritsar

As the Fatehgarh Sahib Court has stayed the arrest of Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu on 06 June, Amritsar Police has registered a case of offence against public tranquility on Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu Under Sections 153A and 153B of Indian Penal Code 1860 (45 of 1860). This case is registered on late evening of 07 June. Police takes the plea that Bhai Daljit Singh made provocative speech on 06 June at Sri Akaal Takhat Sahib in a Samagam organized in the memory of June '84. Now it is clear that State is trying its best to trap Bhai Daljit Singh in order to defuse Sikh Movement Against Dera Sauda.

Vedanti, SGPC chief endorse move

Jammu, Rejecting the plea of a Sikh delegation from Jammu for boycott of Dera Nangali Sahib, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Joginder Singh Vedanti and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh have endorsed the move of the Dera chief Mahant Manjit Singh to organise “Amrit Sanchar Samagam” here on June 10.
The Akal Takht Jathedar would be presiding over the samagam along with the high priests of the four other Takhts. Around 11,000 Sikhs would be baptised by the Sikh clergy at the samagam.
On the heels of the Dera Sacha Sauda controversy, a Sikh delegation, under the aegis of the Jammu District (ad hoc) Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (JDGPC), had called on the SGPC chief and also the institution of the Akal Takht at Amritsar, opposing the event, raising their objections to the practices followed at the dera here.
“The Singh Sahibans (high priests) and the SGPC president are coming to Jammu for the Amrit Sanchar Samagam,” a spokesman for the SGPC told The Tribune here on the phone from Amritsar.
According to sources, SAD president and Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had advised the SGPC chief to stay away from the dera chief’s event, after the Sikh delegation from Jammu had called on the latter with the proposal that the “Amrit Sanchar” be organised by the SGPC along with the J&K State Gurdwara Board or the local Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, and not by any dera chief.
Meanwhile, at an emergency meeting here today, JDGPC general secretary Gurdev Singh, Jammu-Kashmir State Gurdwara Board president Tirlochan Singh Wazir, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) Jammu unit chief Harjinder Singh Raina and other Sikh leaders expressed their concern over the rebuttal of their appeal to the Akal Takht Jathedar and the SGPC chief.
